The Aspen Times By Paul Andersen for The Aspen Times, July 7, 2007

Our group of three adults and eight children composed a small speck within the Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness, an 80,000-acre expanse of deep forests and high mountain peaks. Across the distant western horizon stood the snow-capped peaks of the Elk Range: Pyramid Peak, the Maroon Bells, Capitol, Daly, Mt. Sopris. Sawmill Park was all ours. There was no one else within miles. We had hiked a deserted trail for almost four hours and now, deep in the wilderness, it was time for our first discussion. As moderator, it was my job to draw these kids into the assigned readings. I begin with a warm-up: "Why are you here?"

With a valley full of nonprofits, Tomorrow 's Voices often slips under the radar, especially considering a budget that's smaller than the salary of many local executive directors. However, the 8-year-old nonprofit has grown into an organization that now affects hundreds of kids in the Roaring Fork Valley with supplemental education programs ranging from a lecture series to college-credit classes for high school students.

The Aspen Times By John Colson for The Aspen Times, August 29, 2006

Tomorrow's Voices wants to raise the level of "social justice content" in area public schools, and is seeking local teachers to join the effort through its Master Teachers Network. According to Piper Foster, spokeswoman for the local nonprofit organization, the network is "a consortium of teachers enlisted to enrich social justice content in social studies classes." Teachers are paid for their participation, which is being offered to working and retired teachers in the Aspen and Roaring Fork school districts.
